~/about.md · the crew on Undercliff Ave

your expertise, finished — sitting in your lms instead of a folder called “someday.”

We’re a small crew at the foot of the Palisades, and our whole job is getting the course you keep meaning to make out of your head and into a working SCORM file. Same producer on your first call, your filming day and the final zip. That’s kind of the point of us.

how a pile of “almost ready” courses turned into a studio

Short version: we kept fixing the same four problems for people, so eventually we just built a place that fixes them on purpose.

A wall of index cards mapping out the modules of a course, linked with indigo thread
fig. 2 — the module wall. everyone’s course starts here, as cards.
  1. a3c19f2init: the folder called course_FINAL_v3

the knowledge was fine. the finishing wasn’t.

Before Abacadence, we kept bumping into the same person over and over: a genuinely brilliant nurse educator, trainer or coach whose course existed as forty slides, a stack of voice memos and half a book. Nobody lacked expertise. They lacked a week with nothing else to do, and someone to tell them what goes in lesson one.

  2. 7e04b5dfix: the handoff problem

four vendors, four versions of your course

A writer here, a videographer there, an editor who’d never read the script, then “the LMS person.” Every handoff lost a little of what you meant, which is why so many courses feel stitched together. So we made one rule that runs everything: a single producer carries your project from the scoping call to the final zip.

  3. c82d6a1feat: film from your spare room

studios are pricey, and frankly a bit scary

Hot lights, a stranger with a clipboard, a parking garage. Turns out people teach better at home. So we started shipping a kit — light, lav mic, tablet prompter — and directing live over video. Calmer for you, and nobody’s paying for a soundstage.

  4. f1e9037test: inside your actual lms

“works in SCORM Cloud” isn’t “works in yours”

We learned this one the annoying way. Now every package gets a test upload into the real LMS your learners will use, with your pass marks and completion settings, before we call anything done.

~/why-the-weird-name

an abacus, plus a rhythm you can actually keep

ab·a·cus noun · the oldest counting machine

A frame of rods and beads. You slide one bead across at a time until the whole sum is done. No genius required, just steady moves.

ca·dence noun · a beat you can keep up

The pace that gets things finished — not a sprint you burn out on by module two.

Squish them together and you’ve got the job description: take a big, tangled pile of know-how and count it out into lessons, one bead at a time, at a pace a busy expert can survive.

  • 01 · scriptyou talk, we write it word-for-word
  • 02 · filmone directed day, your own room
  • 03 · cutpacing, motion graphics, captions
  • 04 · packagequizzes wired in, SCORM zipped

every bead slid to the right is one thing you didn’t have to google at 11pm.

~/house-rules.txt

six things we won’t budge on, even when it’d be easier

These are taped up in the edit suite. Hold us to them.

rule.01 · the handoff

one producer, the whole way through

The person who runs your scoping call is the person directing your filming and signing off your zip. You’ll never hear “let me loop in my colleague who’s new to this.”

rule.02 · the location

we come to your room, not the other way round

The kit shows up a week early, we do a quick setup call, and on filming day you sit down in a room you already know. Zero commutes, zero makeup chairs.

rule.03 · the captions

a human reads every caption file

Auto-transcription hears “SCORM” as “storm” and “sepsis” as something worse. Every .vtt gets read through by a person before it ships.

rule.04 · the invoice

we say the number before the clock starts

Two rounds of notes per module are included. Anything past that is $165 an hour, and you’ll hear that from us out loud before a single minute gets billed.

rule.05 · the files

your footage is yours. all of it.

Scripts, raw footage, project files, captions, the final package — it all lives in a shared folder that stays with you after we wrap. Reuse it, recut it, it’s your call.

rule.06 · the honest no

we’ll tell you if you don’t need us

Sometimes the right answer is a tidy PDF or a live workshop, not a video course. If that’s you, we’ll say so on the free call and point you somewhere useful.
